South Korea has planned to deploy 200 Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) Surion to replace UH-1H attack helicopters and 500MD light helicopters in service with the South Korean armed forces.
The Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) Surion is 19 m long and 4.5 m high. It is powered by the American T-700 turboshaft engine and has a max cruise speed of 259 k/h. The KUH has empty weight of 4,817kgs and its MTOW is 8,709kg.
The Surion flew for the first time in March 2010 and its 4 prototypes completed 2700 flying hours in 2000 sorties by end of April 2012. The KUH has undergone fifty extreme weather condition test flights.
