First AH-64D Apache Block III Attack Helicopters Delivered

The Boeing has delivered 1st AH-64D Apache Block III attack helicopter to the United States Army. Under Low Rate Initial Production plans, Boeing has stated the production of 51 AH-64D Apache Block III helicopters for the U.S. Army with and total requirement of 690 Apache Block III gunship helicopters .

The AH-64D Apache Block III attack helicopter features around twenty six new improvements to enhance the combat performance of the gunship. Improvements include a new split-torque face gear transmission which increases its power capability to 3,400 shaft horsepower. 

The Block III Apache also features a new composite main rotor blade to accommodates the increased power which results in increased weapon carrying capability.
