French Rafale fighter jet has emerged a winer in the Indian Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) competition to for the sale of 126 fighter jets to the Indian Air Force.

"The French firm Dassault Rafale has emerged as the L-1 (lowest bidder) and cheaper than its european rival EADS (maker of Eurofighter) in the tender and will be offered to supply the aircraft to the IAF."


Indian Air Force (IAF) has shortlisted the Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale on 27 April 2011 while wedish Saab Gripen, Russian Mikoyan MiG-35, and the American F-16IN and F/A-18IN Super Hornet were rejected.

Dassault will supply first 18 of the 126  Rafale fighter jet to the Indian Air Force in three years while rest will be manufactured in India under licence.

  1. the IAF shud scrap the lca tejas aircraft,since we have the mmrca rafale which s time tested & proven in wars.

  2. LCA seems to be too little and to late for IAF needs but it will continue as it is a national project no one will dare to scrap
