Chinese Soar Dragon HALE (High Altitude, Long Endurance) UAV

In another indication of rapidly developing Chinese defense aerospace industry, Chinese Internet sources has revealed another image of new Chinese high altitude, high endurance, long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (HALE UAV).

Soar Dragon HALE (high altitude, long endurance) UAV uses long thin diamond-shape wing structure to achieve larger wingspan which is suitable for sustained high altitude flight and long endurance. China displayed the model of the Chinese Soar Dragon UAV in its “Zhuhai Air Show” in 2006.

Hsiung Feng III Anti-Ship Missile Fails to Hit Its Target

Taiwan's Hsiung Feng (Brave Wind) III supersonic anti-ship missile missed its target in a training exercise due to problems in its computer.

Hsiung Feng III supersonic anti-ship missile is capable of cruising at a top speed of Mach 2.0 (twice the speed of sound) and has a range of around 130 kilometers when flying very close to the sea to avoid early detection.

United States Rejects Taiwan's Request for 66 F-16C/D Fighter Jets

United States has once again rejected the Taiwan's request to sell additional F-16s. United States State Department has blocked the latest petition by the Taiwan to submit a letter of request (LoR) for 66 F-16C/D Block 50/52+  fighter aircrafts.

United States had earlier blocked three such attempts by the Taiwan for the purchase of 66 F-16C/D Block 50/52+ and upgrade of the 146 F-16A/B Block 20 fighters aircraft.

United States Air Force Grounds F-22 Raptor

The United States Air Force has grounded its F-22 Raptor fifth-generation stealth air superiority fighter aircraft due to the problems suffered by the aircraft's oxygen supply.

Fifth-generation Stealth aircraft which is designed to evade radar was grounded since May 3 and United States Air Force officials say that it is yet not clear when the most advance fighter aircraft in world would be able return to the air.

Russia Delivers 4 Su-30MK2 Fighter Jets to Vietnam

Vietnam has received 4 Su-30MK2 fighter aircrafts from Russia. Sergei Kornev has confirmed at the Paris Air Show that 1st batch of 4Su-30MK2 fighter aircrafts has been delivered to Vietnam.

Sergei Kornev is heading the Russian Rosoboronexport delegation at the Paris Air Show. He said that Russia will hand over the 2nd Ilyushin Il-76MF transport aircraft to Jordan at end of this month.

United Arab Emirates has decided to decrease its order of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptors from 144 to 96 interceptors.

In September 2008, UAE government had requested the United States government to purchase 144 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptors and associated equipment at an estimated cost of $6.95 billion.

Indian Navy Demands Clarifications Over Crash of MiG-29KUB Fighter Jet

Indian Navy has demanded detailed briefing over the crash of a MiG-29KUB fighter jet, which was manufactured for the Indian Navy. This briefing will play an important role in determining if th problem is sufficient enough to force Indian Navy's MiG-29Ks which are already in service.

Indian Navy has ordered 12 MiG 29K and 4 MiG-29KUB fighter jets from Russia at cost of over $ 900 million in 2004. Four MiG-29K Fighter jets are already in service at Goa.

It is being speculated that China may launch its first aircraft carrier as early as next month. China has been refurbishing and upgrading the former Soviet Union aircraft carrier, "Kuznetsov".

Speculations suggest that upgraded carrier may be launched next month to perform initial tests while official launching ceremony may be held  next year.

US may Offer F-35 to Indian Air Force

United States may offer its latest fifth generation F-35 stealth fighter jet to the Indian air force. Lockheed is trying to reenter into the MMRCA fighter jet competition after its offer to sell F-16IN Block 70 was rejected by the Indians.

United States Senate Armed Services Committee has asked the US Defense Department to conduct feasibility of selling F-35 JSF (joint strike fighter) to the Indian air force.

IAF to Receive 4 C-130J Super Hercules by the End of June

Indian air force is all set to receive 4 out of 6 C-130J Super Hercules transport aircrafts by the end of this month. India had placed an order for 6 C-130J Super Hercules transport aircrafts for $ 970 million in 2008.

Indian air force officials has confirmed that 2 C-130J Super Hercules are already at the Hindon air base and another 2 will join the IAF fleet by the end of June 2011.

India Should Develop ICBMs with Range of 10000 km: Indian Air Chief

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik has called for developmental of the  intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) with ranges of 10,000 km to ensure that India can deliver its nuclear weapons to any target around the world. 

Indian Air Chief says that India should design and produce intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) with which can suppress the planned capabilities of the Agni-V ICBM which has range of over 5,000 km. He argued that India must look beyond its traditional enemies Pakistan  & China.

Hellenic Air Force's Mirage 2000BG Fighter Jet Crash

Mirage 2000BG fighter jet of the Hellenic Air Force has crashed into the eastern Aegean Sea during a routine training exercise at 1:24 p.m. Both pilots were successfully able to eject and are safe.

Turkey to Purchase 6 CH-47F Heavy Lift Helicopters


Turkish  Undersecretariat for Defense Industries is very close to the finalization of the contract for the purchase of the 6 Boeing CH-47 heavy lift military transport helicopters at cost of around $300 million.

Turkey showed interest in the purchase of 14 CH-47F heavy lift helicopters, but due to the financial reasons the order has been scaled back to 6 helicopters . These new CH-47F Chinooks will be 1st heavy lift helicopters in the Turkish service and will be delivered in 2013.

India to Purchase 10 C-17 Globe master-III Aircrafts

India government has given go ahead to the Indian air force to sign contract for the purchase of 10 Boeing C-17 Globe master-III heavy lift transports. Indian air force has also indicated that it plans to exercise options the option for 6 additional  Boeing C-17 Globe master-III heavy lift transports. 

Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared this purchase worth $4.1-billion, making it the biggest Indian defense deal with the United States.

India Building Its Defenses along Line of Actual Control

India has started deployment of the Israeli Searcher-II unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters along the 4,057-km Line of Actual Control. India is building up the infrastructure to ensure that it is not at any disadvantage with China.

Indian army has already authorized the construction of the over 5,500 defenses and bunkers near the line of Line of Actual Control at cost of around $ 2.06 billion. Cabinet Committee on Security for the Eastern Army Command plans to complete these bunkers within next 4 to 5 years.
