It is being speculated that China may launch its first aircraft carrier as early as next month. China has been refurbishing and upgrading the former Soviet Union aircraft carrier, "Kuznetsov".
Speculations suggest that upgraded carrier may be launched next month to perform initial tests while official launching ceremony may be held next year.
Refurbished "Kuznetsov" has been fitted with the new radars, sensors and short range air defense systems. Next month is also the 90th anniversary of founding of the Chinese Communist Party
China has also developed J-15 carrier-based aircraft to operate from the Chinese Navy (PLAAN) aircraft carriers. These J-15 fighter jets are based on the Russian SU-33 and Chinese J-11B fighter jets.
