Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Mikhaylo Yezhel has confirmed that the Ukrainian Air Force will get three An-70 military transport aircraft. He said that air force will take the delivery of the first Antonov An-70 "in the very near future."
The Antonov An-70 is a four engine military transport aircraft which is powered by propfan engines. Antonov An-70 flew for the first time on 16 December 1994 in Kiev, Ukraine.
Nine years ago, Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement for equal risk-sharing and production deal.
Russia plans to purchase a total of 40 to 60 Antonov An-70 transport aircrafts and their acquisition is included in the State program in the area of arms for 2011-2020.
