JASDF To Fly F-15J Eagle fighters Without External Fuel Tanks

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) was cleared to fly the F-15J fighters jets which were grounded due to an external fuel tank burst in midair during a training mission near Komatsu air base on 7th October.

This was the 2nd grounding order for the F-15J fighter jets in last 3 months.The fighter pilot of the F-15J was able to bring his fighter jet to the airbase safely.

South Korea May Win Indonesian Contract For Thee Submarines

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) has confirmed that Indonesian Ministry of Defence would sign a agreement worth $1.1 billion  for the construction and delivery of three 1,400-ton Chang Bogo class Type 209 diesel-electric attack submarines.

DSME’s Communication Director Jeong Seong-dae said has said, “We have launched talks to sign a submarine contract with Indonesia’s defence ministry and [Navy]”  and “Both sides have long-discussed the sale of Korean-built submarines, and now we are in the final stage of fine-tuning detailed requirements and contract terms.”

Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed that parts of the missing Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter jet was found in the mountains in the Thirot village which is some seventy kilometers away from the Keylong.

Russian Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer Crashed in Near Chinese Border

A Russian Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer supersonic attack aircraft has crashed in the Amur region bordering China.

The landing gear of the Sukhoi Su-24 attack aircraft failed to deploy during the landing run which resulted in crash landing. During the crash Su-24 caught fire after sliding off the runway which has resulted in the death of both pilots.

The Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer is swing wing,  supersonic attack fighter jet which was designed as an all-weather precision air strikes platform. 

Over 1,400 Su-24 fencers were produced and Russian Air Force & Russian Navy still operate over 400 Fencers.

Oman Looks to Purchase SL-AMRAAM & Avenger Air Defense System

Oman  has requested the purchase of Avenger Fire Units, STINGER Missiles and Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missiles

Oman is looking to purchase the following items;
  • 18 Avenger Fire Units
  • 266 FIM-92 Stinger -Reprogrammable Micro-Processor (RMP) Block 1 Man Portable Air Defense System (MANPADS) for The Avenger System
  • 6 STINGER Block 1 Production Verification Flight Test missiles
  • 24 Captive Flight Trainers
  • 18 AN/VRC-92E exportable Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems (SINCGARS)
  • 20 S250 Shelters
  • 20 High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs)
  • 1 lot AN/MPQ-64F1 SENTINEL Radar software
  • 290 AIM-120C-7 Surface-Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles
  • 6 Guidance Sections,
  • Surface-Launched Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SL-AMRAAM) software to support Oman’s Ground Based Air defense System,
Total cost of the whole package including training & logistics support will be around $1.248 billion.

The Avenger Air Defense System (AN/TWQ-1) uses FIM-92 Stinger Man Portable Air Defense System (MANPADS) to provide  short-range air defense protection from cruise missiles, UAV, low-flying aircraft, and helicopters at range of about 5 km.

SL-AMRAAM(Surface-Launched Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) fire unit carries 4 to 6   fire and-forget AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM beyond-visual-range (BVR) missiles mounted on an Army High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) along with the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel surveillance radar. 

French Navy's E-2C Hawkeye 2000 on Charles de Gaulle (R91) Aircraft Carrier

The E-2C Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft is capable of taking off and landing from an aircraft carrier. Its AN/APS-145 radar can track over 2,000 targets at upto ranges of 550km and control the interception of 40 hostile targets.

France has also requested the United States for an upgrade of of the four E-2C Hawkeye 2000 AEW&C with Mode 5/S Identification Friend or Foe (IFF). 
French Naval Aviation (Aeronavale) operates three E-2C Hawkeyes airborne early warning (AEW) aircrafts which makes it the only operator of the E-2 Hawkeye from an aircraft carrier besides the United States Navy. Hawkeyes 2000 can stay in air for over 4 hours while they are up to 200 miles from the aircraft carrier.

French Naval Aviation (Aeronavale) operates its E-2C Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning (AEW) aircrafts from the French aircraft carrier, Charles De Gaulle. All the French E-2C Hawkeye have been upgraded with  Hamilton Sundstrand NP2000 digitally controlled, 8 blade propellers as part of the NP2000 program.

Human Error Cause of Black Hawk helicopter Crash in Afghanistan

Human error has been reported as main cause of the Black Hawk helicopter crash which resulted in the death of 3 Australian and one American commandos in Kandahar Province of Afghanistan in June last year.

Crew of three other Black Hawks immediately landed near the crash site in order to remove their fellow soldiers from the burning wreckage of the helicopter.

Light Attack AT-6 Successfully Deploys Precision-Guided Munitions


AT-6 Light Attack and Armed Reconnaissance (LAAR) aircraft has successfully test fired GBU-12 (500 lb) Paveway II and GBU-58 (250 lb) Paveway II laser guided bombs with high precision. 


Between Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, AT-6 light attack aircraft flew 3 sorties every day and tested BDU-33, BDU-50, GBU-12, and GBU-58 precision munitions.

German Air Force To Deploy Euro Hawk Next Year

The German Air Force (Luftwaffe ) unveiled the Euro Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which will be able to stay in air for over day and half with multiple sensors. German Air Force is hopeful that Euro Hawk will be ready for deployment next year

Euro Hawk is a modified variant of the RQ-4B fitted with the European sensors including an EADS' SIGINT package to fulfill the requirements of the German Air Force which was looking for replacement of its Dassault-Breguet Atlantique electronic surveillance aircraft.

Sea Trails of Severodvinsk Nuclear Powered Submarine Completed

Russia has completed the sea trails of  fourth-generation Severodvinsk nuclear powered attack submarine and Russian Navy is scheduled to receive its first Severodvinsk submarine in late 2011.

Construction of new generation Severodvinsk class submarine in 1993 at an estimated cost of $1 billion.
