NATO and Russian Fighter Jets to Participate in Exercise Vigilant Skies 2011

NATO and Russian fighter aircrafts will participate in  a joint counter terrorism exercise “Vigilant Skies 2011” as part of NATO-Russia Council Cooperative Airspace Initiative (NRC CAI). NRC-CAI is designed to stop the terrorist from using civilian airliners in terrorist attacks.

NRC-CAI requires both sides ti share information on movements in their respective airspace and  coordinating interceptions if required. This initiative will provide a shared NATO-Russia radar picture of air traffic and help in early detection of suspicious air activities.
